SLAM Mission
What is SLAM? It stands for Student Library Awareness Mission and functions as the IMC Student Advisory Board. SLAM is coordinated by Mrs. Jennifer Lara, the District IMC Director. The board consists of 12 high school students who are selected for membership after an application process. Members serve for the duration of their time at OTHS, and new seats on the board are filled each new school year to replace those members who have graduated or moved.
This advisory board functions as a link between the school instructional media center and the students. Because members of this board represent the student body, it is important that the board be a diverse group of students with different backgrounds, cultural experiences, and personalities. In representing the student population and conveying the needs of OTHS students, the aim of developing a student advisory board is to help form the future direction of the OTHS Instructional Media Center (IMC).
SLAM's Mission: To increase student awareness of the services and programs provided by the OTHS Instructional Media Center. Our board aims to better prepare students for the future by encouraging recreational reading, information literacy, and diversity among IMC users. Through various programs, we aim to promote a positive attitude among young adults towards the IMC and its services. By increasing use and understanding of the IMC, SLAM strives to improve the educational and social atmosphere of OTHS as a whole.
